THE LOCAL GREEN SCENE |

"Besides having a television-free Thanksgiving, one of my favorite green things is to be designing our minimalist earthen house: the smallest, most energy efficient design for our tiny family and to dream about cultivating community solidarity, which just has to be a green thing to do. “ Crozet Elementary School's Nature Club invited Betty to come out and talk to 20 kindergarten and first graders about reducing and reusing. We talked about better choices: like bringing your own water bottle filled with tap water instead of using disposable plastic water bottles. Then we made trash mobiles and birds' nests. The kids club has done other recycled art projects and upped the recycling at their school. Keep up the good work!" - BWB |

"I love to garden. I compost leaves, grass, and kitchen waste, collect water with a rain barrell and grow tomatoes, corn, peppers and more."- Paxton |

"Water conservation is increasingly a part of our future. Rain barrels are a great way to save and reuse nature's gift. I collect in the spring to keep my garden watered all summer!" - Dav |

"I believe each of us contributes to the world, positively and negatively. The fact that we are here means we start with a negative effect. Each of us has the responsibility to live as wisely as possible. What Kathy and I do is pretty basic. We live close to work, I bike when I can, when it came time to trade in our 13 year old cars, we bought hybrids. And, in following a family tradition, we now have chickens. Chickens make me happy. I go out in the morning and collect eggs which are healthier than what we can buy in the store." - Greg
