Opening of the New Farmer's Market!
Tuesdays starting June 3rd, 4-7pm (rain or shine)
Forest Lakes, 1650 Ashwood Boulevard, South Recreational Facility parking area
Come out this Tuesday for the big opening of this new farmer's market! What makes this market unique is the open invitation to families to participate by coming out and selling their surplus fruits, veggies or flowers they have grown (even if it's just for one night). Also growers of food, flowers, live plants; local producers of meat, poultry, dairy, eggs, specialty food products; local food vendors selling prepared food (must comply with all local health department regulations) ; local artisans and crafters with items to sell and/or artistic services to offer (ex: face painting) ; local musicians and street performers are invited to be vendors. For more information: Contact Dawn Story at (434)977-2033 or dstory@pecva.org to receive the Rules & Guidelines, the Vendor Registration Form and Liability Wavier. Then return the Vendor Registration Form by mail, email or fax. They will contact you to coordinate a space (spaces are limited). This year, it will be FREE to participate. All vendors are responsible for handling all federal, state and local guidelines for sales tax and business licensing. The Forest Lakes community is home to over 1,400 households and about 5,000 people.

27th Annual Albemarle County Fair
July 29 – August 3, 2008 

"The Fair provides a focal point for the community to celebrate Albemarle County’s heritage, compete in a variety of events, display and view artwork, and showcase the best of Albemarle County.  The mission of the Albemarle County Fair is to provide wholesome family entertainment and activities that highlight the human, natural, and agricultural resources of Central Virginia.  The Fair, which attracts over 25,000 visitors from the Charlottesville/Albemarle region every year, provides a great tool for demonstrating the importance of agriculture and introducing young people to both traditional and innovative aspects of life in rural areas."  Hop on by - for directions and hours check www.albemarlecountyfair.com

Free E-cycling at Crutchfield!

This weekend (August 2-3) Crutchfield is offering FREE recycling of up
to 5 electronic components.  This includes computers, monitors, TVs, recorders, etc.  See the attached PDF file for details. The list of eligible items they accept for recycling -- and the normal

1st Annual Better World Betty Picnic in the Park
August 3, 2008

Admission $5/person $10/family
Celebrate earth-friendliness with other green-sceners by bringing your own picnic basket and reusable beverage bottle or enjoy the light fare provided by Betty and Rebecca's Natural Foods. Music, eco-games, face painting, and fun for all ages! Please bring CDs and Books to exchange. A scavenger hunt will begin at 3pm. Local band, Trees on Fire, will play an acoustic set at 4pm. Proceeds will help pay for the event and the ongoing work to sustain BWB as a tool for green living in our community! Our sponsors are Rebecca's, Blue Ridge Eco-Shop, and Eco-Dry Cleaners.

Monthly hikes with Wild Virginia. 
One weekend per month, Wild Virginia sponsors a day hike in the George Washington National Forest, Shenandoah National Park or other natural area.  Hikes are free and open to anyone who is interested, carpooling is encouraged.  Details can be found at www.wildvirginia.org, or 434-971-1553.

BLUE RIDGE COHOUSING OPEN HOUSE
Every Saturday and Sunday, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Blue Ridge Cohousing is a group of families and single people building an earth-friendly community in Crozet, Virginia. Features will include private energy-efficient homes, shared organic gardens, preserved green space and a community house to help build social ties. Meet the members of BRC, tour the historic farmhouse, see house and site plans, and learn more about cohousing. 4H Junior Naturalist Clubs
